2011 BMW 1-Series M Coupe will Receive 350-hp Inline 6-Cylinder Engine

Bmw no longer hide behind the question...

Proving media speculations true, BMW has finally admitted using a 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder turbocharged engine capable of producing a superb 350-hp powerdrive for its 2011 BMW 1-Series M Coupe. The direct-injected engine seems to be a tuned version of the company’s N54 twin-turbocharged engine. A six-speed manual gearbox and a dual-clutch automated manual gearbox form the transmission base for the vehicle’s powertrain.

Along with a stylish leather interior and 19-inch wheels, other enhancements of the car include new sport buckets, a completely renovated wide body kit, and an M steering wheel with paddles. No indication, however, has yet been received for the car having a carbon fiber roof similar to M3 coupe.

Even though BMW has indicated unveiling the car in early 2011, you have to wait until September next year when the 2011 BMW 1-Series M Coupe is expected to make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

New BMW series at 2012

Told here about the BMW at 2012..

The new 2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe and Convertible aren't due to arrive in showrooms until early next year at the earliest as the current model was only given its mid-cycle facelift a little over two years ago.

Prototypes of the new car, however, are already testing in Europe and have been captured by spy photographers on several occasions testing near BMW’s headquarters in Munich or around the Nurburgring circuit. We now have this latest computer-generated rendering of the Coupe, revealing a very similar overall look to the recent BMW Gran Coupe Concept.

Comparing previous spy shots of the Convertible, several clear differences can be seen. The rear side windows are a different shape on the two cars, the roof profile is also slightly different and the rear window on the Coupe is slightly wider than the one on the Convertible as well.

This suggests that BMW is preparing two separate 6-Series models unlike what it did for the latest Z4 Roadster, which now only comes with a folding hard-top roof. BMW will sell both a 6-Series Coupe and a 6-Series Convertible with a conventional soft-top roof.

The current 6-Series has proven to be a sales success, with numbers averaging just on 20,000 units per year. BMW doesn't want to risk hurting sales of the next-generation model so for the new car designers will be dialing down the controversial styling. The new rendering and previous spy shots reveal a much sleeker look and a wider, more purposeful stance.

Inside, the new 6-Series will feature plenty of luxury appointments as well as an eight-speed automatic gearbox with paddle-shifters. The current engine lineup is expected to carry over relatively unchanged, however, a new twin-turbocharged V-8 will be adopted for the high-performance M6. This engine is expected to be a variation of the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter unit found in the current X5 M and X6 M but output could be dialed up to around 570 horsepower for application in the new M6.

BMW electric car

BMW's electric city car of the future, i think.

Called the Mega City, it is a futuristic four-seat supermini which will be on sale by 2013 as the first step in BMW's vision of an electric future.
It has been developed to cater for the growing number of "mega cities" around the world.

There are already 130 cities with more than three million inhabitants each, and by 2050 a massive 70 per cent of the world's population are expected to live in them.
A group of BMW's top "out of the box" thinkers have been put together in a team called Project I to develop the Mega City, which will be the first of a family of electric vehicles.

BMW have been using data taken from more than 600 drivers of Mini E electric prototypes, including some in the UK, to improve the range of the Mega City. They have also looked at other issues raised by electric vehicles, such as attaining quicker re-charging times.

The concept is made of lightweight materials, including an aluminium chassis and a body shell made of carbon fibre re-enforced plastic that is as strong as steel but 50 per cent lighter.
The materials will help to improve the battery range to between 100 and 150 miles, but BMW are also developing a petrol generator to give some versions an extended range of over 300 miles.

The Mega City should also be fast for an electric car with good acceleration and engineers say with rear wheel drive it will handle like a true BMW.

Despite being a similar size to the two-seat Mini E, it is a full four-seat car. With no gearbox transmission tunnel needed, it has got a lot more interior space.
Inside sources say it also gets a very funky and radical new interior, unlike any other BMW, to match the striking exterior styling.

As the launch is over two years away, there are no prices. But BMW say it will have a premium price tag because of the technology, so expect something in excess of £20,000.

The company are creating a full family of vehicles that will use the Mega City technology, including the Mini brand.
